The Johnnny Nocturne Band
with John Firmin

Here's the latest from The Johnny Nocturne Band:
- The only real news the last year has been that John Firmin aka Johnny Nocturne's
recording of the instrumental "Harlem Nocturne" is the most downloaded recording of this classic song on both itunes and Rhapsody download services.Of the over 150 different recordings of this film noir 1930's Earle Hagen melody offered at the various downloading sites John's is by far the most popular. We like to think that the Pharoah Sanders style intro helped listeners make their choice of the numerous versions of "Harlem Nocturne." Thank you Mr. Sanders for your influence over the years. The recording is also found on two Nocturne CD's "Good to the Damn Bone" Blue Bucket Records. "Million Dollar Secret" Rounder Bulleseye Blues.

- Although the Nocturne Band has been realitivly in active the last three years a new band featuring a more soul/groove oriented style will be appearing in 2010
We are plannng a series of shows as a tribute to Hank Crawford and David "Fathead" Newman. Two of our great influences that passed away with in weeks of each other in early 2009. Hank's band was especially a stylistic influence on the Johnny Nocturne Band since it's inception in 1989. They are both greatly missed but left us a lot of great music.
